POOL PUMP SEALS COMPARISON |
The objective of this test was to validate by using scientific methods, what we already know from real world field experience--that all pool pump seals are not the same |
HOW WE DID THIS WE COMPARED FOUR COMMONLY USED POOL PUMP SEALS (1) US SEAL PS-200 (2) PAC SEAL PS-200 (3) ALADDIN PS-200 (4) PAC SEAL PS-516 The US Seal PS200, Pac Seal PS200, and Aladdin PS200 are listed as having a phenolic face The Pac Seal PS516 is listed as having a carbon face |
HOW WE TESTED We submerged all the seals in a tray of 6% sodium hypochlorite for a period of 160 hours, and examined the seal face surface for erosion compared to new, in addition we installed the seals on a pool pump, ran the pump, and checked for seal leaks THE RESULTS The Pac Seal & Aladdin PS200 failed first at 72 Hours, The US Seal PS200 lasted until 120 Hours, and the Pac Seal PS516 was still going at 160 hours CONCLUSION It is best to try to get a carbon faced seal if possible, but this may be difficult as most pool stores only stock the cheaper phenolic faced seals... In any case it is best to replace your pump seal at yearly intervals as a preventative maintenance, since there are other components such as the elastomer or bellows or spring that can cause seal failure.... |
